Q: What is Bye Bye Standby?
A: Bye Bye Standby® (BBSB) is a brand new energy saving solution designed to reduce daily energy consumption of electrical devices. BBSB works by completely cutting power to the electric devices plugged into it when they’re not in use, thus saving the power that electric devices would otherwise consume in Standby Mode. BBSB is a new way to save energy, carbon emissions and money.
Q: How does BBSB work?
A: BBSB is a socket adapter that connects between the wall socket and an electric device which consumes energy unnecessarily. This could be an electric device with a standby mode, such as a computer monitor, printer, copier, fax, modem, router which is always on when it could be off. BBSB allows the user to have easy control over all these electric devices with the use of a wireless remote control. A single button can be pressed which the wasteful electric device so it no longer consumes electricity. Pressing the button again reconnects the electric devices.
Q: What is Standby power?
A: Standby power is power being consumed while the electric device is not being fully used, but while it awaits instruction; while it is “standing by”.
Q: What effect does the excessive use of Standby have on the environment and how much of our energy is used on standby power?
A: In 2000 researchers from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory estimated that Americans spend around $4 billion on standby power. Generating that electricity puts roughly 27 millions tons of CO2-equivalent emissions into the atmosphere (more than 3.7 million cars worth) every year!
Q: Where can I use BBSB?
A: BBSB can be used in both a home or office environment and can be used with any of the following: Television, DVD player, Cable or Satellite box, MP3 player, VCR player, DVD Player, CD player, TiVo, Stereo, Printer, Fax, Copier, Scanner, Shredder, Lights, Games console, Computer, Monitor, Speakers, Phone charger, and many other electric devices.
Q: In which circumstances should I NOT use BBSB?
A: BBSB should only be used inside and only in dry spaces. It should not be exposed to rain or humidity. The 1800 watt/ 4amp BBSB socket should not be used with any electrical appliance containing a heating element, such as a microwave; in this instance a heavy duty BBSB socket (3000 watt) should be used. It is important not to overload any BBSB socket and children should not install or touch the socket adapters.
Q: What would happen if one overloads the Bye Bye Standby® Socket?
A: For safety purposes we recommend you DO NOT overload the socket. Internal product testing experienced no adverse effects when overloaded, however overloading a socket could potentially lead to fire hazard and product failure.
Q: What benefits can be gained by using BBSB?
• Saves energy: Completely cuts power to your DVD player, television, stereo, PC etc at the touch of a button on the wireless remote control.
• Saves you money: Reduces your electricity bill by switching off electrical devices left on standby within your home.
• Saves the environment: Reduces carbon emissions into the atmosphere by shutting down equipment not in use.
• Makes life easier: Gives you convenience – allows you to remotely control electrical devices from the touch of a button.
Q: Are there any energy savings to be gained from switching off electric devices rather than leaving them on standby?
A: Yes!! TV standby power generally use 3-7W compared with around 140W when switched on. When in standby mode, some devices use a mush as 25% of the energy they use when they are in full use. This standby power is being wasted causing addition carbon emissions and still appears on utility bills.
Q: What is the lifespan of a BBSB remote control and how frequently do I need to change the battery?
A: The BBSB remote is a wireless controller. Each press takes 2 seconds and in total it can be pressed 60000~70000 times. Lithium battery is used which will last 3 times longer than a normal battery.
Q: There is a little light on the socket even when the electric devices are fully switched off; does this energy consumption not eradicate any benefit of using BBSB?
A: The light is on the socket for a safety reason – to show that there is a live 110V current running through the adaptor when it is switched on at the wall. The energy consumption of this when measured is less than 1 watt. It does not read either an amp value or watt value when tested with an energy meter. You can use this socket with a power strip, meaning you could potentially cut the standby power to 6 electric devices using one socket.
Q: What’s the difference between BBSB and just turning off the electric devices?
A: BBSB provides a convenient solution which enables people to switch off a number of electric devices at the touch of a button. BBSB is helpful to older people or people with disabilities who cannot bend down to the actual socket.
Q: How does this device work with audio/ video products that lose their settings if turned off for a while?
A: Most equipment has memory for holding setting has a rechargeable battery in it to enable it to hold the settings during a power cut. As long as these electric devices are on long enough to recharge the battery then it is fine to turn them off. If you want to use the electric device to record programs, then it will need to have power to be able to do this.
Q: What is the length of warranty for this product?
A: This product has a 1year warranty.
